11. Apparently, I learned at dinner today, it is incredibly maleducado (rude) to keep your left hand in your lap/off the table during meals. Apparently, the Spanish don't like the fact that they can't see what your hand is doing under the table and that you could use said dubious hand to touch their food. It was eye opening. We all tried to eat with our left hands on the table but it felt incredibly...rude.
So, wait a minute...have you all been eating dinner with your left hands politely in your lap thus far? Who was the one who first realized that your behavior gave you away as heathen from the US? Did your host mother not want to tell you how awful you have been so far???
ReplyDeleteYes. For whatever reason during last night´s dinner she made the comment and we were all horrified! And shocked! And yet it was impossible to keep our hands on the table--it felt icky.
ReplyDeleteOh my G-O-D!
